Visual Art 

The Term 2 Unit of Inquiry is called 'Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art' which integrates with the Transdisciplinary theme- 'Where we are in place and time'. 

 

The Unit focuses on how contemporary Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island artists incorporate traditional techniques and knowledge, with the ever-changing range of introduced modern mediums, since colonisation.  

 

Students Participated In 

  • Exploring the origins of dot painting in relation to Papunya Tulla by creating a Camp Dog collage- using Dot painting techniques or pencil and texta pattern with layering detail. This was inspired by the Aboriginal artist Dion Beasley
  • Creating a Spirit Sculpture using assorted string binding, fabrics and paint, inspired by the work from both Central Australia Tjanpi Desert Weavers and Arnhem Land rock paintings
  • Printmaking a fabric design, inspired by artists from the Tiwi Islands

Exchange programme with ARAKAWA PS (sending project works on Osaka, a second largest city of Japan, to the school), Children’s day festival.

Physical Education

The term 2 unit we are focusing on is 'How We Express Ourselves'  

  • Invasion Games: Netball and Basketball modified games 
  • Gymnastics and beginning of athletics 

Focus

  • Incorporate aspects of physical fitness into warm up activities    
  • Refine the Fundamental Motor Skills of passing and catching in modified invasion games  
  • Introduce new skills such as handball and rugby throw 
  • Introduce the concepts of attacking and defending and moving into space during modified games 
  • Gymnastics skills to develop combinations of movement through flexibility, strength, rotation and balance

Focus 

Exploring how music has evolved over time

  

The Students Will 

  • Boomwhackers – are a tuned percussion tube with each tube playing an individual note. Using the Boomwhackers we have explored steady beat and various rhythms. Songs included: Encanto, Sky Full of Stars, Believer, Turning Red. We have also included the use of claves and drums to create an ensemble of different sounds 
  • Body Percussion – in groups students collaborated to create a 16-beat performance piece for the class. Using only body percussion students will present the composition to the class
  • We have continued to develop the class playlist which allows us to explore the musical elements: rhythm, tempo, pitch, dynamics, and timbre. This also allows the class to develop an appreciation for new music
  • Learning Task: in Year 4 students will be exploring the evolution of music and how technology has changed music. Students will research their chosen artist or a genre and will create a presentation

 Library                                                                               

All students are encouraged to borrow books from the Library. The focus is on reading for enjoyment, interest and information. The children also have the opportunity to practise their borrowing skills and further their love of reading. 

The Library program also supports and extends the units of inquiry being studied in each year level and provides classrooms with resources to enrich the units offering varied forms of information.
