Year 6 Spotlight

Year 6 Writing – Composing a Hook

In Writing, Year 6 students have focused on developing their narrative writing styles, by focusing on composing introductory leads that will hook in their readers. The students have been exposed to a variety of leads including:

  • Dialogue
  • Onomatopoeia
  • Flashback
  • Questions
  • Description leads

The students have eagerly shared their writing, inspiring one another. We hope you enjoy some of our work below:

Chuppa – Chuppa – Chuppa. The sound of the helicopter got louder and louder, the force of the blades made the illuminated grass fold in half.
~ Ollie B, 6A

It is that time of the year again, September. September was always the most stressful. Every year, one day from September is crime free.
~ Lila G, 6A

Creak! The two rangers skirted around a tree to avoid the hulking beast of iron and steel. “What are we going to do!?” said one of the rangers.
~ Harvey J, 6A

How it all started… it was the 18th of December 2049, the day everyone’s lives would change. The government and scientists had made a specialised machine no one knew what it was going to do, but we were about to find out…
~ Verdasco H, 6A

Walking through the lone stream. Smoke, flames, screams. Dark shadowy figures looming over the darkness.
~ Hamish K, 6B

My body is numb, my heart is numb. I can only think about what just happened. The sight of mum getting taken away. My Aunt dying from a small, little bullet. I can’t get the scene out of my head. Shhhrrr. A sound wakes me up from the horrifying scene.
~ Ainsley C, 6B

The fires raged as the sky darkened. Stars were strewn across the sky. Buildings crumbled as the war machines fought. The moon came out from beneath the clouds, daring them to go on.
~ Ollie B, 6B
