NAPLAN Tests
Congratulations to all Year 7 and 9 students on completing their NAPLAN tests, I was extremely impressed at the way students conducted themselves during this testing period. The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The assessment provides parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests. Results from the recent testing will be sent home later in Term 3.
NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process – it does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance. NAPLAN also provides schools, education authorities and governments with information about how education programs are working and whether students are achieving important educational outcomes in literacy and numeracy.
What does NAPLAN assess?
NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through their regular school curriculum. All government and non-government education authorities have contributed to the development of NAPLAN materials. Students are assessed on the same literacy and numeracy curriculum content, regardless of whether they complete the tests online or on paper. Results for both formats can be reported on the same NAPLAN assessment scale.
Now that the test is completed what can I do to support my child?
On its own, NAPLAN is not a test that can be studied for, and students were not expected to do so. You can support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is just one part of their school program. A reminder to continue to review teacher feedback on PAM and to discuss these results with your child. Discussing strategies with them and their teacher on achieving ongoing improvement is a meaningful conversation to support their learning.
Year 11 Exams
Students who do not have a scheduled exam are not required at School. If parents are not able to provide supervision at home, or students are not able to get home, the College will provide a supervised study space for any students at school without an Exam. Parents are asked to please respond to the PAM notification for Year 11 Exams.
Year 11 VCAL students will continue with their classes as per normal.
Year 10 Exams
All exams are 90 minute exams (10 minutes reading time and 80 minutes writing time). Exams will take place in the Middle School Hub (Rooms 22-25).
VCE Subject Changes
Students wishing to change subjects for Unit 2 need to speak with the Senior School Team to collect a subject change form. Subject change forms need to be submitted to Ms Connell via the office by Friday 3rd June.
Year 10 Work Experience
Forms were due back to the office at the end of Term One. We still have a number of students looking for placement. If you are able to help by placing a student in the week of Monday 20th June to Friday 24th June, please let Jenny Damon know via email on jdamon@mmcrc.catholic.edu.au
