ACTING ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Ben Hawthorn

Last Friday I was lucky enough to coach one of our netball teams in the annual Campaspe Primary School’s Netball Tournament. It was great to have our entire 5/6 cohort take part in the day with many of our students playing for the first time and being pushed far out of their comfort zone. Each team I watched got better and better each game with a number of teachers from other schools commenting on what great sportsmanship our East teams displayed. We had a few wins, a few loses and a ton of fun. Well done Easties, you did us proud.

Congratulations to Jye Blachford and Aarav Bahtia who on Tuesday, set off to St Arnaud with Mr Holmfield to compete in our regional cross country. From all reports, the conditions were absolutely torrid with the wind and rain making the undulating course even harder. Mr Holmfield said both students pushed themselves to their limits and did our school proud. Great job, boys!

This week our Grade 3 – 6 students have been taking part in daily writing workshops as part of the Little Scribes Writing Festival. This is Australia’s largest interactive online writing festival and brings together some of Australia’s most talented authors and illustrators to share their passion and writing secrets with students around the country. Our students took part in different workshops each day, incorporating the craft of writing through a range of genres. I’m not sure about the students but listening to Jackie French spill her secrets about collecting and cultivating writing ideas was a highlight for me.

Just a reminder that enrolments for Prep in 2023 are now open. We have so many amazing things happening here at East so if you know anyone with a child starting school next year, be sure to let them know about it. I am happy to run tours of our great school at any time and let them in on the best kept secret in Echuca education.

Like our wider community, there seems to be quite a lot of illnesses circulating in our school. Now that we are heading into winter this could get worse before it gets better. If your child is feeling unwell, please keep them at home to rest up and be sure to let us know. If students have other members of their household isolating due to COVID, they are permitted to come to school as long as they have tested negative themselves and continue to test for 5 of the 7 days. These students do however need to wear a mask while at school.

Keep warm and have a great weekend everyone.
