Principal's Message
Mr Forrest
Despite our challenges of the past month things at Wedderburn College are slowly resuming back to more normal routines. There is no doubt student and staff illnesses has impacted us, but over the last fortnight things seem to be returning to some normality with a majority of staff and students returning to class. As previously mentioned we are very lucky to have staff who are willing to teach in both Primary and Secondary settings so that classes are always covered.
We are encouraging everyone to keep up with what we have learnt over the past two years especially with washing hands, sanitising and social distancing. Free Flu shots will be available to every Victorian over the next month.
It was great to have the Primary Assembly back last week, please see MVP's above.
As always there is lots happening at Wedderburn College so make sure you keep referring to the school calendar. If you require another copy please collect one from the school office.
A reminder to everyone that as per our yearly calendar next Friday 10th of June is a Curriculum/Student Free Day for students. We hope everyone enjoys the extra day in making it a four day break with the Queen's Birthday Holiday on Monday 13th June.
All information has been sent out last week. We have been waiting for the provider to finalise all details. The most important news is that all students will participate free of charge, as we have received a 'Positive School Grant' which will cover camp costs. Parents will only have to provide spending money. Please note, while we are in Melbourne students, MUST wear a face mask while on public transport. Students can be fined for not wearing a face mask on public transport. Remember the camp is after the long weekend.
If any students or parents have any ideas for new modern learning spaces at Wedderburn College, please share your ideas with us. We are writing a report for Department of Education and Training and would love your thoughts about how to best renovate the classroom and specialist spaces at our College. Our report is due next week.
Early Childhood Education and Care Services will continue to be provided with the same weekly quantity of RATs. However, from Monday 23 May 2022, the use of RATs will only be required where staff and children are close contacts (household contacts) or they have symptoms of COVID-19 (such as fever, chills or sweats, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath or a runny nose).
Children and staff will therefore no longer be recommended to conduct RATs twice a week if they have no symptoms. Close contacts will need 5 negative tests over a 7-day period to attend a service.
Face masks can continue to be used by any staff or children who wish to do so, including those who are medically at-risk.
Thank you for your ongoing support for, and implementation of, these COVIDSafe measures. Please contact the school office if you require further information.
