Cool, Clever Canines:

Teaching Kindness With Classroom Canines:

Nala is Mrs Tipi's gorgeous Samoyed. Nala sat the St John’s Therapy Pet Assessment in the holidays - and passed with flying colours.

The assessment included following a selection of commands and testing Nala’s reactions to touch and sounds, as well as assessing her general disposition. Apart from joining us at Western Heights on Thursdays, Nala will be visiting rest homes and other schools on Fridays.

From my principal's point of view, Nala is a wonderful addition to our school whānau. She is incredibly gentle, patient and good with our children. Room 15 absolutely adores having her join them on Thursdays. They learn kindness to animals, how to care for a pet and gain lots of language stimulation also.

Kai is a much younger cool canine - he comes to school with Ms Head two days a week and is providing the same opportunities to the children in room 31.

Last Friday Kai and Kelley both wore pink for Pink Shirt Day.
