Academic Care and Wellbeing - Students

We welcome back students for the 2020 school year and extend an especially warm welcome to our new students in all year groups.  Like most years the start of Term 1 is a busy time and we are working hard to make sure everyone is well prepared for launching themselves into learning.

New students have experienced a range of workshops to ensure they have an understanding of the timetable, the college set up, their devices and our sense of faith and community.

Please encourage students to manage their own organisation by checking their COMPASS calendars for events and their CANVAS calendar for homework requirements, by having the correct uniform ready to wear each day, and that laptops have been fully charged overnight. Please find below relevant policies.

Year 7 Peer Support

Year 7 students have commenced our Peer Support program, led by Mrs Fraser, Mrs Baggio, and Year 10 students who we trained last year.

Participation increases connections for Year 7 students as they transition to Secondary School. Peer Support encourages students to form relationships and develop empathy and a sense of responsibility towards students they might not typically engage with. While working within these structured small groups, older students lead younger students through activities that explore social and emotional skills focusing on resilience, values and anti-bullying. This program improves our sense of self, and of belonging to the Mater Dei Community.

The Mater Dei Wellbeing team look forward to working with Mater Dei families during 2020 in the care and support of your children. Please also join us for your child’s House Family Breakfast throughout the year, as it is a great opportunity to meet or re-familiarise parents with their child’s Homegroup teachers and House Leader. Dates for House breakfasts are listed below, with more information issued to families closer to the date.
