Teaching and Learning

End of Semester 1

We are rapidly approaching the end of what has been a busy and productive Semester 1 with Semester 2 commencing on Tuesday 14 June. For many students this will see the opportunity to start new subjects, for others it will see a continuation of subjects.

Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge they have developed this semester in a variety of assessment tasks. PAM provides parents with the ability to monitor and support their child’s progress.

Semester 1 Reports will be available in the last week of Term 2.

Year 10 and 11 Exams

At the end of Semester 1, students in Years 10 and 11 will be completing Semester exams.

Studying for and sitting exams deepens learning. Studying is like exercising. When one exercises, the muscles in use grow stronger. Likewise, the process of searching through one's memory and retrieving the relevant information strengthens that memory pathway for future uses.

The exam period will run from Friday 3 June to Thursday 9 June. Students will receive their exam timetable and exam guidelines shortly.

Year 10 Work Experience

Workplace learning programs are to be designed to achieve curriculum outcomes and enhance the vocational, educational and social development of students.

All Year 10 students will participate in our Work Experience program in the last week of Term 2.

Work experience is a valuable part of our Year 10 Program as it provides students with:

  • an understanding of the work environment and what employers expect of their workers
  • an opportunity to explore possible career options
  • increased self-understanding, maturity, independence and self-confidence
  • increased motivation to continue study and/or undertake further training
  • a better understanding of how the school curriculum can help prepare young people for work
  • an introduction to workplace recruitment practices
  • enhanced opportunities for part-time and casual employment
  • the opportunity to include the employer's work experience evaluation in future job and course applications
  • opportunities to develop work-related competencies and acquire skills
  • the chance to 'try out' a workplace.

Please discuss with, and support your child, in obtaining their work experience placement and the returning to school of their work experience forms. Beth Crossman, Pathways Coordinator, will be able to support both you and your child with any questions you have.
