LAUDATO SI’ WEEK

This week is Laudato Si’ Week, named after Pope Francis' publication on the 'Care for our Common Home'.

Laudato Si’ is a call for action around the world to care for our common home. Pope Francis calls us to hear the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor. What connects both cries?

How can we hear and respond locally and globally?

Here's something practical we all can do today to improve soil quality, reduce methane and CO2 emissions, to slow down the biodiversity decline, and, by doing so, improve the lives of people around the world who rely on nature for their survival - in a way, we all do!

Our Council is calling on the community to provide feedback on waste and the environment through the annual WickED (Waste in Campaspe -- know, educate, do) survey.

Access the survey here: WickED Survey 2022

By completing this survey, you will enter the draw to win one of eight prizes. The survey closes on Monday 23 May 2022 and winners will be notified by 27 May 2022.

And then, all we need to do is improve one habit at a time.

There are many ecological, peace and justice issues that call us to See, to Judge and to Act. The Year 9 students who attended the Justice Matters camp 'For the Future' in Beechworth and the Year 10 leaders who attended the Kildare Ministries Seminar in Melbourne last Friday will, no doubt, lead us in coming weeks with awareness raising, solidarity, charitable and justice actions. Stay tuned!

Earthcare Schools and Parishes

On Monday St Joseph’s College will be represented at the launch of the Sandhurst Diocesan commitment to Laudato Si’ Action and the commissioning of EarthCare Schools and Parishes.

"I urgently appeal ... for a new dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet. We need a conversation which includes everyone, since the environmental challenge we are undergoing, and its human roots, concern and affect us all ... We require a new and universal solidarity. As the bishops of Southern Africa have stated: "Everyone's talents and involvement are needed to redress the damage caused by human abuse of God's creation." (Laudato Si' 13)
