Carnivale: Celebrating Culture, Creativity, Community

This is our theme for this year’s much anticipated day to end Term 3 and to celebrate the feast day of St Francis on Thursday 17 September.  Students will arrive at school for an 8.30am start.

We congratulate all artists and designers who participated in the poster design competition.

In third place:  Jemima Bishop (Year 10)

In second place:  Zoe Knight (Year 12);

and the winner in first place is Ella Robertson (in Year 12).

Well done to Ella, whose poster will now be used to promote the festival throughout the College and in our social media.

How can Students Be Involved?

We lead into the Cultural Festival with the excitement of the performance heats next week.  These heats highlight the excellence of our singers, instrumentalists, dancers, and actors.  These heats take place from 24 to 26 August with the whole college as audience during lunch times on those days.  Selected acts will be invited to perform in the showcase concert on the festival day.

For the creative and competitive students, we also have categories such as:

  • Cake Decorating – to be made and decorated to fit the theme and brought in on festival day
  • Multimedia – video, photo, instrumental, or song writing composition, soundscape
  • Literature Awards – a written piece related to the theme.

Who has house spirit?  The house battle will test this out.  Led by their house captains, all students are busy rehearsing their house dances to present a polished and coordinated performance on the festival day.  Which house will be the winner of the House Battle in 2020?

Carnivale Theme

For our Carnivale atmosphere, everyone will be given a cardboard mask to decorate and they need to be brought to school on the day.  Students can also join in the spirit by planning a themed costume to model in our costume parade.

We look forward to a joyful celebration for the feast day as we come to the end of another busy term.
