Term 3, Week 6

Home Learning

Home Learning

Thank you for your continued support of the Home Learning program. The students are working hard and submitting work to a good standard and we are working towards some Leadership Team proposals as well.

As always, please read through all the information included in this weekly Newsletter as well as the Compass Newsfeed, as it contains more specific information about Home Learning. We will also share this information through posts on the Grade 6 Cohort Google Classroom.

We thank you for your continued support and please don't hesitate to contact us via compass with any questions or queries.

GOOGLE MEET SESSIONS:

NOTE: It is a requirement for all students to attend their Google Meet sessions each day.

Information about your child's Google Meet sessions will be posted on their individual class Google Classrooms. This term we will be running more small group Google Meet sessions. It is an expectation that your child attends their sessions each week.

English

Reading

Grade 6 will be continuing to summarise texts. They will be continuing to look at Text Structure, with a focus on  Problem and Solution, Compare and Contrast and Sequence. Students will be writing their own summary based on the common Text Structures in order to consolidate what they have learned.

Writing

We are continuing our unit on ‘The Writing Process’. This unit will take students through the process of planning, drafting, revising, and polishing a narrative piece.  This week students will continue workshop mode, adding dialogue to the most dramatic parts of their narrative. They will practice several techniques for making dialogue interesting and learn to punctuate dialogue correctly. Next week students will have more independent writing time and complete their narratives. The assessment rubric has been made available to students on the slides.

Mathematics

The students will finish their unit on Fractions, Decimals and Percentages this week with a Post-Test on Essential Assessment. They will then begin their new unit with a collaborative task focused on understanding mathematical concepts and vocabulary.

Included in the slides are some extension tasks and early finisher tasks. The students should be working through their My Numeracy goals, as well as using Mathletics and Prodigy if they have time.

Unit of Inquiry

This week students will continue to research the documentary film 2040. Students will complete the Energy use in our world worksheet.  Students will complete part A of the Testing the tone of climate change worksheet.

Students will complete part B of the Testing the tone of climate change worksheet and this piece of work will need to be submitted.

Contact

We encourage and celebrate student voice in Grade 6. If students have any concerns or questions, they can comment or post on either the whole cohort or individual class Google Classrooms. Teachers receive notifications when students post and will respond when possible. Students should also communicate questions and ideas relating to learning with each other using the two Google Classrooms. This will keep them connected and allow them to see each other's progress.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email your child’s teacher through compass.

Reminders

Children must have Google Classroom notifications turned on to ensure they are receiving communications from their classroom teacher and their peers. It would be useful if students checked the Google Classroom each day, both in the morning and again in the afternoon, to see if new information or tasks have been added.

Specialist Team

The Specialist team will be organising tasks for the students and sharing this with students. Please contact Mrs Travis or Mrs Goosey if you have any questions.

Hearing Unit

Parents of Hearing Unit students, please continue to refer to your child’s weekly HU program. Please contact your child’s Teacher of the Deaf with any queries.
