Year 11 Construction Immersion

On our Construction Immersion day today, we continued building our floating deck in one of the School’s Boarding houses. (Mr Fogarty’s backyard). We set up the laser level to check that all the joist from last week were level. We used an electric plane to adjust one or two joists that was out of level as the timber had a bow in it. We used a framing nail gun to shoot off the noggin in between the joist. We then started laying the 90 x 19 Merbau decking boards. We measured and cut the decking boards on the drop saw. A jigsaw was used to house the decking boards around the post. We then spent the rest of the day cutting and fixing decking boards to the joist, we predrilled the hardwood decking boards with a 2.5mm twist drill bit prior to fixing. We used 50mm galvanised decking nails to fix the decking to the joist. At the end of another busy day, we cleaned up packed up the construction site.
