Year 12 Finish

Our Year 12 students have until Friday October 23 (the second week of Term 4) to complete their school-based education programs at the College.  However, many of our Year 12’s who are not sitting for WACE exams may complete their education programs earlier than that date. As soon as our Year 12 students finish their education program at the College in Term 4 they are required to leave the campus. We will provide Year 12 students with a Clearance Form that will act as a checklist to make sure they’ve completed all of their course requirements before they leave.

WorkLink Information Sessions

Sally and Andy from WorkLink Albany attended the College on Monday 3rd and 10th of August and presented to our Year 12 Ag Studies and Trades students about Writing Effective Resumes and Social Skills in the Workplace. The feedback from our students about the sessions were positive where they appreciated the relevance and meaningfulness of the information delivered from industry professionals.

OLNA Testing

The second round of OLNA literacy and numeracy testing for those students yet to achieve the minimum requirement will take place between August 31 to September 25.   Results of the Round 2 OLNA testing will be available to schools in late November.

Students who are completing Year 12 this year and who do not meet the required standards in this round will still receive a Western Australian Statement of Student Achievement (WASSA) which provides a formal record of what they have achieved during their secondary schooling.

OLNA Literacy and Numeracy Support

Mrs Warburton has continued providing OLNA Literacy Support to our Year 12 students who are required to sit the upcoming OLNA testing in Reading and/or Writing. After the completion of the Round Two OLNA testing, Mrs Warburton will identify and approach the Year 11 students who can benefit from this support, preparing them for the next round in March 2021.

All Year 11 and 12 students yet to meet the OLNA minimum numeracy requirements are encouraged to attend the support sessions being run by Mrs Hatch on Thursday afternoons between 4.oo – 5.00 pm.  For our Year 12 students it will be their last opportunity to achieve the required “Category 3” benchmark.

2021 Course Selections

2021 course selections for students moving into Year 11 or 12 will be sent out to parents toward the end of this term. This will give parents the opportunity to discuss the preferred courses and options their son or daughter wish to pursue up to and over the holiday period.  A reminder to parents that Steve Swallow (Principal), Stuart Irwin (HOD of Studies), and I are always available to discuss course selections with parents, so please don’t hesitate to contact either one of us if you need some advice.

First Aid

St John Ambulance (Denmark Sub Centre) have commenced conducting a series of First Aid courses to College Year 11/12 students. Students will receive a Provide First Aid certificate on completion. The course will include both online study and one day of theory and practical instruction delivered by the Denmark St John Ambulance Sub Centre.

First Aid forms an important part of a number of Vocational Education and Training certificates delivered at the College including Conservation and Land Management, Horse Care and the Certificate III in Agriculture. Provide First Aid is also a core competency for the Certificate II qualifications in Equine and Forest Growing and Management.

The course is optional but highly recommended, particularly if students are intending to complete a Cert. II Forest Growing and Management or a Cert. III in Agriculture in 2020 or 2021.
