Parish School Education Board

Board Meeting 16/6/2020

It was wonderful to conduct a meeting in person this month and have the opportunity to share home learning experiences.

We were all pleased to hear that the new vision statement has been developed -

A Welcoming Community Leading the Future of Learning ‘With Faith and Love.’

The staff have worked extensively to develop strategies to welcome our children back to school and reported that they are all settling in well. It is a credit to the staff that they planned their teaching strategically over the last couple of months to ensure that many of the subjects which would be revisited were the focus during home learning.

The marketing team has been working hard to utilise current strategies to ensure the school is promoted in the most effective ways and we were pleased to hear that enrolments for 2021 are well on their way.

We are very lucky that our teachers continue to develop their skills and it was great to hear that Kellie had recently attended a math leadership day.  She was invited to be involved in a new project called Exploring Mathematical Sequences of Connected, Cumulative and Challenging Tasks. Her involvement in this project has provided rich resources for St John’s to use with the students in the Junior school as well as benefiting the older students. There was a focus on presenting the problem and allowing the students to find the solution. We all reflected on how this is relevant to many aspects of life, not just maths!

A new policy has been developed for the school to implement involving the use of external providers for NDIS recipients within the school. The ongoing development of school policies ensures consistency for the staff and families as well as a set of guidelines to follow.

As would be expected, all our discussions lead back to home learning and as Board members we all reiterated the exceptional job our amazing teachers did, not only supporting our children but also supporting the school families. They identified that every child had different needs and they were able to meet these needs. We will be forever grateful for their dedication and commitment.

As always, if anyone has any questions they would like to raise with a Board member, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
