Religious Dimension

Our Gospel Challenge this week is to ......

"Cultivate sources of wisdom in your life"

With three children who played sport on both days of the weekend for many years, our garden was quite neglected and over-run with weeds. During the first "lock down" period, my daughter and I spent many hours pulling weeds, trimming shrubs and planting new seedlings. It was lovely to reconnect with our neighbours as they offered advice on how to keep the weeds at bay and what plant suited particular positions in the garden.

This week’s gospel talks about weeds and wheat and how to handle them. We all need spiritual neighbours who have learned a thing or two about the weeds and the wheat and how they crop up in our lives. Listen to the people who know. Cultivate sources of wisdom in your life - the sacraments, good spiritual reading, daily prayer - and pay attention to them. Because life isn’t just a bed of roses.

The Blessing Australia

When American Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes and Stephen Furtick of Elevation Church began improvising a song based on the Biblical ‘Aaron’s Blessing’, little did they know it would soon be a source of comfort for millions during a pandemic – sparking a global movement of cross-denominational worship. During this time of uncertainty and physical isolation, over 300 local churches united together in Australia to sing a blessing over our nation. This is the first time this has happened. Watch this with your family and see if you can spot the inside of St John's Mitcham in it.
