Principal's Message

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families,

Well done for an exceptionally successful first week of remote online learning at home for the second time this year!

Thank you to all of our families who were able to complete the school survey on our remote learning program in Term 2. We had an amazing 102 responses which was hugely valuable in providing an extensive insight into the strengths and areas we needed to improve.

Last week, as a collective staff we spent a lot of time analysing all of your feedback and adding our own reflective evaluation of our remote online learning approach. Based on your feedback and our evaluations we identified some changes and inclusions in a number of areas to improve our overall approach.

Many of these changes are:

  • Creating how to videos to support students and families with navigating the digital platforms.
  • Slight change in the order of lessons in some year groups to maximise student learning, engagement and energy early in the day.
  • Alteration to the timings of the lessons to provide more time for students to complete learning tasks.
  • Modify lessons to ensure they are more achievable in the time provided for students to complete tasks.
  • Using more instructional videos for lessons to increase student independence and confidence.
  • Years 3 to 5, have refined the TEAMS space to make the learning tasks more accessible and easier to locate.
  • Small group guided reading sessions via WebEx.
  • Increase one to one contact with students who are our daily innovators via WebEx to gain further student feedback and increase connectedness.
  • Increased contact between teachers and parents either through Class Dojo or phone calls with updates on their child’s progress.
  • Plan to hold a Wellbeing Wednesday in the third and fifth week of online learning to enable students, families and staff to re-energise.
  • Friday’s are now shorter each week to help keep energy and enthusiasm levels high and give time for families to unwind before the weekend.

We hope you have already noticed the difference these changes have made to our remote online learning program and this has made a difference for our students and for our families too!

Our Maramba School Values

Our school values are an integral part of who we are as a people and as a community. They are the things that we believe are important. Values have a major influence on a person's behavior and attitude. Every day and every moment they serve as broad guidelines in all situations in guiding us in the choices we make and the actions we take.

In Term 3, we will be focusing on our school value of Resilience.

Resilience: We are brave when faced with challenges.

Resilience is that ineffable quality that allows some people to be knocked down by life and come back stronger than ever.

Rather than letting failure overcome them and drain their resolve, they find a way to overcome the challenges they face by:

  • giving 100% in everything we do;
  • giving everything a go and never give up;
  • continuing to aspire to achieve excellence;
  • being committed to providing excellent learning and teaching opportunities;
  • encouraging entrepreneurship, innovation and risk taking;
  • giving praise and encouragement when deserved;
  • and trying and trying again to overcome challenges.

While some of the core factors that make someone resilient are, a positive attitude, optimism, the ability to regulate emotions, and the ability to see failure as a form of helpful feedback, there are other key attributes of resilience.

These include:

  • social competence
  • a sense of agency or responsibility
  • optimism
  • a sense of purpose or hope for the future
  • attachment to family, to school and to learning
  • problem-solving skills
  • effective coping style, pro-social values
  • a sense of self-efficacy
  • positive self-regard

Enrol for 2021!

If you have a sibling who will be coming to Maramba next year, please come and collect an enrolment form from the office. The sooner we know our numbers the better we can plan.

If you know of someone interested in our school for next year please ask them to contact the school about our virtual tours.

Kind regards,

Darren Wallace
