Harmony Day- Last Week

THANK YOU PARENTS
A big thank-you to the MPS parents, Mrs. Gunton, Mrs. Dillon-Shallard, Mrs. Koval, Mrs. Holland, Mrs. Stanley, and Mrs. Choudhary who came in last week and ran lunchtime activities to help the students celebrate Cultural Diversity Week and Harmony Day.
There were 60 students who participated in the activities with excitement and curiosity. Thank-you for sharing a part of your culture with us and for developing our inter-cultural awareness.
Thank-you to Ms Paola and Ms Williams for running lunchtime activities as well.

6W HARMONY DAY REPORTS
After a lively and colourful assembly, MPS continued to recognise Harmony Day throughout last week. Different cultural activities were on offer throughout the week as well as the whole school parade where students had the opportunity to share their cultural clothing. It was wonderful to see how diverse our school community is. Congratulations to George and Hanako for being such confident comperes, and thank you to Miss Van Loon and Maki Sensei for organising such a harmonious and educational week.
Mexican dancing
On Tuesday, Mrs Paola held a Mexican dancing activity at lunchtime. We used our hands and our feet to create the dance. We had to multitask with the music and keep in time with the beat. We learnt where Mexico is and what music the Mexican dance uses. It was a fun experience to have. Thank you Mrs Paola for sharing your enthusiasm and time with us.

Khamsa Art
At lunch time on Wednesday Miss Williams taught students about the Khamsa symbol - a good luck hand from Morocco. Everyone had a go at making a good luck hand. They traced their hand, cut it out, decorated it, and stuck it on a colourful piece of paper. By the end of lunch, the classroom was full to the brim of enthusiastic kids. Thank you to all of the kids that came and thank you Miss Williams for giving up your lunch.

Japanese Star Festival
To celebrate Harmony Day, Maki Sensei worked with Yuko Gunton (Hanako’s mum) in the Japanese room to teach students about the Japanese Wishing Star. For the activity you could create a paper star and write your wishes on to it. Maki Sensei has set up the display, along with our wishes, in the foyer.

Cultural Activities in the Hall
On the Thursday of Harmony week, there were a range of activities on offer in the hall that introduced students to the cultures of Judaism, Malta and New Zealand. Loads of kids gathered around to listen to the stories and participate in the activities. There were many interesting facts about these religions and countries. On the island of Malta, people claim that Malta can fit into Australia 25000 times!!!
