END OF TERM 1
Welcome to the final newsletter for Term One. As I reflect on the term, there are so many wonderful things to acknowledge and celebrate such as:
- The Prep children commencing school so confidently
- The whole school celebrations for Harmony Week
- Our teaching staff introducing our new SMART spelling program
- Students focussing on their own goals and learning intent
Thanks to all our families, students and staff for a positive term 1 and we look forward to Term 2 with lots of activities and events, including our Grade 5 camp. As a school, we will continue our focus on improving student writing through our upcoming curriculum days and our Big Write sessions.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
The Annual General Meeting of School Council will be held on Monday 30 April. More news about this will be in the newsletters in Term 2.
NATIONAL YOUNG LEADERS DAY
Yesterday I had the privilege of attending a student leadership day with our school captains, Jacob R, Sienna R, Lucas J and Charlotte N. I say a privilege, because our students had a great day and also showed impeccable manners and respect for each other.
The students started the day with some close encounters with a python! They also danced at the silent disco and had the opportunity to listen to a variety of speakers about leadership.
Consentino, John Coutis, Harrison Craig and Gemma Triscari all spoke about their lives, how they overcame hurdles and discussed what they think students should focus on. The theme for the day was that leadership is about passion, never giving up, being inspirational, being positive, being resilient and showing perseverance. It is not about a badge and a role description.
The school has purchased two of Consentino’s books, which he signed and his key message was for students to be themselves, lead by example and when they think of the future, believe in the beauty of their dreams.
John Coutis said his key message was to encourage students to treat people the way you wish to be treated. He is a great believer in looking at what students can control; their effort, their attitude and their actions.
Harrison Craig spoke about goal setting and hard work. His message was for students to work hard to achieve their goals, and that your attitude to facing hurdles can make a big difference.
Our final presenter was Gemma Triscari, who spoke about how every student has a role to play and should think about the way in which they can contribute to their school. Her message was for students to look at making mistakes as an opportunity to improve.
It was an amazing day and our school captains will have a full report on the day’s events.
EASTER RAFFLE
Thanks to all the families who have made donations to the Easter raffle, whether that was via baskets, chocolates or buying raffle tickets or all 3!
We are extremely grateful for all donations. Our main focus for the money is purchasing new equipment for our First Aid room.
LAST DAY OF TERM
The last day of Term 1 is this Thursday, 29 March. There will be an assembly at 2pm on this day when our Easter Raffle will be drawn.
Children finish school at 2.30pm; they will be dismissed from their line up areas after the special assembly.
Please note that Term 2 commences on Monday 16th April.
Staff at MPS wish everyone a happy and safe holiday and are looking forward to seeing everyone well rested from the holiday break.
