VCAL students create protective face masks

This week our VCAL students worked on a creative task to make reusable face masks for themselves, their peers and family.

Students did a fantastic job researching types of protective masks before applying a variety of skills including cutting out templates, sewing, attaching elastic and ironing their finished product.

Well done to students on showing maturity and determination in creating these masks which will no doubt be put to good use.

Protecting our frontline - DSC prints faceshields

Earlier this year we reported that the College was lending its support to protect frontline workers by printing and donating 3D faceshields for hospital staff members in Victoria.

We are pleased to advise that IT staff member Howin Tang has made great progress in creating these shields. Well done Mr Tang for your efforts!

New Year 7 learning centre on track

Construction of our new Year 7 learning centre continues to progress well. The building is starting to take shape and the spaces are coming together nicely. Roofing is now complete, whilst internal and external wall framing is in progress.

Over the next two weeks, window installation, service rough in, brickwork and the commencement of our very exciting mud rock amphitheatre seating will get underway.

The new two-storey facility will provide 10 general classrooms, two multi-use science rooms and a student toilet block. The facility is due to be completed in Term 4 this year.

You can see the 3D model walk-through of our Year 7 Learning Centre here.

Jess runs for VicSRC!

Year 11 student Jess R has set her sights on representing student voices in Victoria by running for the peer-elected VicSRC Student Executive Advisory Committee for 2020-21!

Victorian Student Representative Council

is the peak body representing school-aged students in Victoria and Jess has asked DSC students to get behind her and make their vote count.

If Jess is elected to the Executive Advisory Committee, she will have the chance to attend meetings with the Minister for Education, speak on a panel to teachers and educators, and advise the Department of Education on how to design a program or initiative to best support students.

For students who have registered to vote, please remember that voting commences on Monday, 27 July.

Good luck Jess!
