Music matters

Welcome back everyone

A return to online learning is not the way we were hoping to start term three, however we are confident after the wonderful rehearsals we had at the end of term two in all ensembles, that we can keep our playing standards up and come back firing in week seven.

Instrumental lessons

Instrumental lessons will continue to run at school for senior students and online through MS Teams for students in years 7-10 unless they are at school.

Lesson times will appear on Compass. Please look ahead to your lesson day for your lesson times and connect on time to make the most of your lesson.

Make sure that you have a dedicated space away from distractions to play for your teacher.

Make sure you can turn on your camera.

It makes it much easier for instrumental teachers to help you if they can see what you might be doing wrong.

Bring a positive attitude and keep up your practice routine to be ready to learn new concepts in each lesson and be able to play your parts for your ensemble.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals for senior music students in Wind Symphony, String Orchestra and Senior Jazz will continue at school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at their usual times. Junior students will join in via teams with these rehearsals. Concert Band, Junior Jazz, Soundworks and Stringworks rehearsals will either rehearse via Microsoft Teams or have set learning tasks to complete and submit each week.

Winter concert cancelled

We were hoping to have a virtual Winter Concert this term but unfortunately we have had to cancel it under the current circumstances.

Victorian Schools Music Festival

The good news is that the Victorian Schools Music Festival is still going ahead. They have pushed the dates out to allow us to record our entry performances by the end of term three. This means that if students in Wind Symphony and Senior Jazz will have a goal to work towards in term three.

Spring Concert

The Spring Concert will continue as planned on Tuesday, 20 October. At this stage it will be a concert streamed to parents but hopefully if COVID-19 numbers go down we may be able to invite an audience. Fingers crossed.

DSC Welcomes New Bass Guitar Teacher, Mr Verco

We are very excited to welcome our new bass teacher, Mr Joshua Verco, to the Music Department.

Josh has been a performer and teacher of electric bass and double bass in Melbourne for many years now and most regularly in Melbourne’s inner eastern schools. He has performed nationally and internationally as a freelance musician during his career and finds it rewarding to bring this knowledge and experience to his students' lessons.

If you are interested in learning bass guitar at school please see Mr Dean or Mrs Howes in the Music office.
