Staff and School News

Thank you Dustin Halse

A pleasant surprise with morning tea for our staff from our local member for Ringwood, David Halse.

Thank you QIC Eastland

Courtesy of QIC (Eastland) free coffee/hot chocolate/tea were made available for all staff and students which enabled accidental positive connections.

Gratitude is extended to Jodie Murphy, (QIC) who made this possible for our college.

A little joy for everyone!

Facilities and Building Works

Hope you are all going well and your families are staying safe. The recent holidays proved a very busy time and I am thrilled with the amount of work completed around the school.

Summary of recent works

  • Drainage- front of the hall-The drainage has always been problematic in heavy rain and on several occasions the hall has almost flooded. We excavated a trench across the full length of the hall and installed significantly larger drains.
  • Handrails-steps back of PAC-These are made from stainless steel and look a real treat.
  • Resurfacing of PAC /Hall toilets, office, changerooms, kitchen- Many of floors throughout the PAC/Hall were very tired and uncleanable- We have coated all the floors in a beautiful terrazzo finish and recoated the main entrance. Looks great!
  • Re-cladding and painting-Canteen East wall- The very worn and damaged weatherboards were replaced with modern compressed sheeting.
  • Carpeting of 204,205,211,212- Very worn carpets were replaced.
  • Repainting of 204, 205- These rooms were well overdue for a facelift and they have come up very well.
  • Replacement- retaining wall South side of Rm 305- Many of our existing retaining walls were built 20 years ago from timber and they are now well and truly past their use by date. The new wall along the back of 305 looks terrific.
  • New seats and East side of quad- Very old timber posts and seats have been replaced.
  • Science and Food Technology roof repairs. The final portion of funding from several years ago was used to repair some pretty ordinary roof plumbing.
  • Ceiling tile replacement Food Technology- Now that our roofs are repaired we can finally replace many damaged ceiling tiles.
  • Large downpipes/SW pipes installed in several locations- Too many of our downpipes are undersized, particularly for heavy storms and we have increased their sizing.
  • Tree planting-Several lovely ornamental pears were planted on the quadrangle perimeter.

Senior School

The build is going well and the actual building is not far off completion. Most of the works are now focussed on civil works. On another note, the Food Technology interceptor pit(grease pit) has not worked properly for many years and it was a real coup to have this repaired as part of the Senior School works. Hopefully this will eliminate or reduce the many bad smells around the buildings at the south end of the school.

Expect handover to be early September.

Enjoy the photos and take care
