NAIDOC Week

So many wonderful activities took place during NAIDOC week. See what our Year One students did.

OUR CONNECTION TO THE LAND

Year One Collaborative Art Activity 2022

To celebrate NAIDOC week, students in Grades 1CW, 1MK, 1DW and 1CF created a symbol that showed their connection to the land. The size of the symbol had to fit into a square and be solid enough that it could be cut out. Symbol ideas included – paw prints, trees, outline of Australia and the Earth, waves, leaves, flowers, flames.

Inside the symbol, students drew what they are connected to. The connections could be drawn abstractly (for example using dots, lines, waves etc) and the colours kept neutral. Their name should also feature inside the symbol. Connection ideas included – family, sport, books, friends, animals, flags, languages, the outdoors - like camping, hiking, going to the beach.

We are all connected.

Here is Eve from 1DW holding her example:

My symbol is a bird because they help me know my surroundings.

Inside my symbol I have drawn family, a flower, Wurundjeri, food, a ladybird, a water drop and a flag because that is what I am connected to.
