Principal's Update

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to term 3.  It looks like COVID-19 will continue to cause disruptions however we will focus on bringing routine, structure and fun to our students as we move through the term.

This term we see the return of many much-loved student activities: the school production, athletics, school camps and book week.  I do think the highlight for the students will be the fortnightly visits by Bailey!  We haven't forgotten about parents with the School Council hosting the CHPS Trivia Night on Saturday 3rd September - keep an eye out for ticket details.

Child safety and wellbeing

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

We have reviewed and updated our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. These are available to view on our school’s website.  The key child safety and wellbeing policies which outline the measures and strategies we have in place to support, promote and maintain the safety and wellbeing of our students are:

  • Child Safety Policy
  • Child Safety Code of Conduct
  • Child Safety Responding and Reporting Obligations Policy and Procedure
  • Student Wellbeing and Engagement Policy
  • Bullying Prevention Policy
  • Volunteers Policy
  • Digital Learning Policy

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.

If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please contact me or Nerida Mellerick to discuss.

Mask Wearing

It is the department’s expectation that, through to the end of winter, students aged 8 and over and staff will wear masks when in class, except where removing a mask is necessary for clear communication or when a particular activity requires the removal of a mask.  We ask that visitors to the school also wear masks when indoors.

Masks are not required to be worn outdoors but can be worn when physical distancing is not possible. This expectation should not constrain student participation in the full range of school activities, including music, sport and performances.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the upcoming events.

Take care

Megan
