BOOM DAY - BIG FREEZE

By Lance Davidson (Deputy Principal)

On Tuesday we celebrated a special BOOM day, BHCS's own version of the BIG Freeze, beanies and all. The day began with a whole school assembly (something special in itself), where we heard from Samantha Moffat from Fight MND who shared all about the 'Beast', Motor Neuron Disease. We then had Adena Savva, one of our Junior School parents, share her own journey living with MND. It was a powerful testimony of what she has been through and how she places her trust in God, despite her body's failings.

At lunchtime, our attention turned to seeing a number of staff take the plunge into an icy cold water tank. We saw Mr Dickson dressed as a penguin, Mr Best as Santa, Mr Sugumar as a fairy, as well as a number of other brave staff sink below the surface of the cold water, much to the delight of students from all year levels.

It really was a wonderful day, and I know that it led to many meaningful conversations both at school and in homes about MND and the BIG Freeze.

NEW NATURAL PLAY AREA

By Peter Cliffe (School Principal)

Exciting news, by the beginning of 2023 we will have a big new natural play space in an area of the school that the students do not currently have access to.

The area has been referred to as the 'Wild Space', as it has been fenced off from student use. It is located adjacent to our enviro centre.

Richard Bellemo, from RB landscapes, was on site last week to draw up a design for this space. As part of the collaboration for ideas for this space, students in the junior school were consulted. Some student representatives from Year 4 met on site with Richard this week to discuss and pitch their ideas. Richard was very impressed with their ideas.

We will share a sketch of the design for this new play space in a future edition of the newsletter. Richard will also be drawing up a design to revamp and extend our kinder play space.
