Boarding

A warm welcome back

It was a warm welcome back to the Boarding House this week. With fresh faces and revitalised energy for the term ahead we have started this week with the vigour of positivity. We have many great activities organised for the weeks ahead, including Port Fairy lighthouse, AFL football at the MCG, Go Karting, Theme Nights, and our regular Formal Dinner. Our Boarding Committee are already hard at work organising a Vinnies Night and a Boarders’ Got Talent evening. We are also looking forward to hosting Masterclasses for VCE students, and a Boys Night In focused upon boys’ health promotion. Our House Mothers have set up a cabin for our Year 7-8 boarders to do prep in a quiet and focused area which is more reflective of a home environment. Also, Lise Lowe and Carline Coates (House Mothers) are launching the Boarders canteen this term.

A few highlights over the holiday period included some birthdays and it was great to be able to acknowledge these on our first night back. We also pleased to acknowledge Nick Dopheide who hosted us last term for our Speirs House Bon Fire evening. This was such a special evening and was captured with a wonderful photo, which in fact made the front cover of the Australian Boarding Schools Association Lights Out magazine. Wonderful promotion for our College.

As you can see there is a lot planned for a busy and engaging Term 3 for all boarders to enjoy.

Casual boarding

Have you ever considered casual boarding? With our after school programs in full-swing, our Boarding Houses can offer a comfortable place for an evening or two to assist with the logistics for day students. When a casual boarder finishes their after school commitment, they are picked up by our driver and brought back to the Boarding House. Here they enjoy dinner, academic assistance, super supper (on a Wednesday), a warm and comfortable bed for the night with breakfast and lunch the following day. Casual boarding is becoming a popular choice for families and their children of all ages, and I encourage families to consider this as an option.

If you would like to trial boarding, experience the benefits of casual boarding or simply enquire about boarding in general, please do not hesitate to contact our Registrar, Susie Holcombe or myself.

Best wishes,

Andrew
