Homework Routines

Welcome back to Term 3. I do hope that all families have had a relaxing break and were able to recharge after such a busy end of Term 2. It has been good to see the students back in the myPEC and feeling enthusiastic towards their classes.

Term 3 is an exciting time for Middle Years students. The Year 9s should all be looking forward to the Mittagundi Winter Experience as part of the Micah Program. The Year 7s are becoming much more familiar with the routines and expectations of the Senior School. With Matilda the Musical, Wellness Week, House Music and College Has Talent, Middle Years students have a lot to look forward to.

Getting into a good routine with homework is vital to successful learning at school. Focusing on homework routines is important to allow students revisit and consolidate what they have learnt during the school day. Homework routines help students become more autonomous and competent in their own learning along with helping them develop perseverance when challenges arise.

 A good homework routine involves:

  • Creating a regular and realistic time for homework to be completed.
  • Minimising distractions - turn off your phones, study in a quiet area alone and without interruptions, sit at a tidy desk.
  • Focus on one task at a time. Our brains are inefficient at multitasking.
  • Study in short sessions of 25-30 minutes, then have a short break and study for another 25-30 minutes (but make sure you come back for the next session!)

Ultimately, having a good study routine creates habits for the future.
