Litteracy circles / Les cercles de lecture
In English we have been doing Literature Circles, which is where we are all put into groups to discuss a book that we are reading. Each member of the group has specific roles such as: super summariser, creative connector, artful artist, discussion director, literary luminary and word wizard.

We also like to have a deep discussion about the book that we are reading. We love Literature Circles and we do them in both French and English.

Le fauteuil de l’auteur
Lorsque l’on est assis sur le fauteuil de l’auteur, on s’exprime devant la classe. Il faut lire une expression écrite, des idées de notre carnet de graines.

The author Tim Harris came to our school and talked to us about his passion for writing!
It has been a very eventful few weeks in the SLC, with quite a lot of things happening. We have been focusing on writing in class, more specifically, narratives.
Ms Wade managed to organise for Australian author, Tim Harris to come in and share his inspiration and writing strategies and techniques with us, such as how to manipulate the audience into feeling or thinking something all through words.
He was extremely funny and made each student laugh at some point, he also encouraged contribution by giving out bookmarks to each person that asked a stimulating or interesting question. It went for over an hour, but it was a very fun hour for all the 5/6 students. He taught us how to implement real-life situations and occurrences into our writing, and gave us some personal stories, and told us about who and what events inspired him to be a writer.
One week before the arrival of Tim Harris, CJC bought some of his books to hand out to classes. Most of the classes read the books. Tim also explained the story behind most of the characters and answered most of the questions. Which was intriguing to many students (including myself). He managed to memorise a chapter from one of his many books. He spoke about what the chapter was based on. Another everyday simple real life scenario based on him losing his drone and retrieving it from three blocks down, and once again he made it hilarious by showing us the hysterical footage.
Overall, I learnt a huge amount from this fascinating incursion and hope we can do more. I enjoyed it because Tim Harris was so funny and made me laugh the hardest I've laughed all week, while teaching us so much in the process. Thank you so much to everyone that helped organise this.

Term 2 - 5/6 Maths
During this term, we have been learning about perimeter and area within the measurement unit. A couple fun things that we have been doing to help us learn more about perimeter and area include measuring some of the equipment outside. Afterwards, we started measuring our classroom and the objects within it. Next, we will be drawing our classroom to scale, in our maths books.

5 / 6 Interschool Sport
For the past few Fridays, the 5/6s have been competing in Interschool Sports. We have been playing against other schools in the area, competing in soccer, footy, tee ball and netball. We have enjoyed playing and some of our teams have been extremely successful. The friendly matches help us to practise for our Lightning Premiership this Friday 3rd June.

Cutting, folding, gluing, manipulating, choosing colours, sharing ideas and materials... Making mummies was so much fun!
