Principal Report
We were excited to welcome back our students on Wednesday to start term 3 following 2 days of inspiring, impactful and purposeful professional learning through our Berry Street Education Model training. It has been great to see our students settle into their classroom and yard routines with a focus on connection and support of each other. We again look forward to a busy and eventful term 3 full of rich experiences and opportunities and continuing our planning for whole school based events.
We hope that all of our students had a restful break and it was definitely exciting to hear of the many interstate and international travels.
We have some new families starting with us this term and we would like to welcome the Bigmore, Mussetti and Walker-Donnelly families to our Surfside community.
With the return to normal operations we are still well aware as we head into term 3 that there is still a large amount of illness in the community so please continue to be up to date with current recommendations and supports within our local community to maximise health.

The Surfside Primary School Annual Fresh Food Fair is back on the calendar and we are ready to start forming our planning team. What better way to plan a school wide event than an opportunity to share some wine, cheese and amazing ideas together.
This will be our first Fresh Food Fair since 2019 and is such a community engaging event but we can't get it back off the ground without the help of our amazing Surfside volunteers. If you can help out in any way, big or small, or just want to learn a little more , please come along and join us.

We were very excited to participate in the Berry Street Education Model training during the first 2 days of term 3. This also provided a geat opportunity for our staff to reconnect in a formal training environment. The days were inspiring, relevant and purposeful to our current climate and a fantastic opportunity to weave Teaching and Learning and Wellbeing through our daily lessons.
Day 1 focused on the area of BODY and emotion with the following highlight areas:
Day 2 was able to focus us together on RELATIONSHIPS with the following highlight areas:
Staff have been actively including these within their daily lesson plans and we look forward to a further 2 days training in 2023. A big thank you to Gill and our leadership team for providing this opportunity for our staff, students and community.
Our students have been busy in the first week on the sporting field and displaying a sustainable focus. If this is what our students are doing in the first 3 days we are all looking forward to an exciting term 3.
State Cross Country Championships - Yarra Glen
After 4 qualifiying events Freya and Sofia headed on the long journey to Yarra Glen to participate in the State Cross Country Championships. It was an overcast and cold morning but the course was in good shape with some gentle hills and soft surfaces - perfect for cross country running. Both students were up against the best in the state and performed at an exceptional level. Sofia participated in the 9/10 multiclass event and finished first in her category securing the gold medal and state championship. A well done to Freya and Sofia and a thank you to their support crew on the day!
