PARENT JOLLY PHONICS INFORMATION NIGHT - Prep to Grade 2

On Monday evening, we welcomed our current Prep, Grade 1 & Grade 2 Parents to our Jolly Phonics Information Session. Jolly Phonics is one of our key approaches to Literacy at OPPS, and it was fantastic to see such a great turnout with so many parents interested in gaining a better understanding of this program.

We hope that families found the session helpful and were able to learn more about how we approach Phonics in the classroom and how you can further reinforce this learning through home reading.

If you were unable to attend this session, a laminated sheet has gone home with each child outlining different ways you can support them with home reading tasks. If you have any further questions, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher.

BOOK WEEK

Book week is coming up and will be happening in the week of the 22nd of August. This year’s theme is ‘Dreaming with eyes open...’. We will be having a book parade on Tuesday 23rd August where students will be able to come dressed as their favourite book character. We will also be celebrating the Children’s Book Council of Australia and the many titles that have won awards this year.

For our dress-up parade on, we will be asking all families to donate a new book that can be added to our classroom libraries. We will have a special sticker that we will stick to the inside cover of each book which will include the year and who donated the book.

ROAD SAFETY

It is fantastic to see so many of our students walk, ride or scoot to and from school. Recently we have noticed a few of our students in the area not using the pedestrian crossings or not wearing helmets when they are on their bikes/scooters. We would appreciate your support in having a safety conversation with your children about the importance of using pedestrian crossings when crossing roads as well as the importance of wearing a helmet when riding their bikes or scooters. This conversation would also be a great opportunity to check that your child’s helmet is fitted correctly.
