TERM 4
What a great first week back it has been in the Art Room!
It was like greeting an old friend; as each child passed through the doors, there were lots of remarks such as “Oh Look!”, “What are we going to make?”, “I remember making this!”.
It was so good to welcome the collective creative chaos and vibe back to the space.
Take a look at what we have been up to….
We had a chance to share our creative adventures together! When I dragged out the junk boxes, the kids knew exactly what they wanted to make. Inspired by our home learning, our Foundation students were ready to make ‘Robots’ by assembling bits and pieces on the table tops and floors. What an amazing array of characters they created!
What better way to launch back into creating than to play with COLOUR! These spectacular colour studies by our young artists will be added to over the coming weeks, turning them into Jenny Kee inspired seascapes. Soft oily pastels of the brightest pigments were used to produce these intense colours. It was great to get our hands
dirty again and discover the qualities of pastel colour mixing.
When I intro the prospect of learning sewing, little did I expect so much excitement. Mastering the skills that go with the art of sewing are invaluable. From threading a needle, knotting a thread, designing a pattern to choosing materials and colours are liberating skills, especially when you consider how much emphasis we place on textiles, clothing and fashion. By the end of the term, not only will the students know how to design and make a soft toy, they will even know the basic to sew on a button!
