From the Principal

Term 4

I really hope you all had a chance to see this photo on Facebook last week.  Despite the challenges we are so glad to be back and love the buzz in the classrooms and laughter and chatter in the playground.

A cheery welcome back.
A cheery welcome back.

Reconnecting after a long absence

After such a long time apart it can be hard to be back with friends at school, and maybe elsewhere as well.  Our teachers have focused heavily on reconnecting the students with each other, providing time and opportunity to talk, play, work together and overcome difficulties.  Here are a few snaps around the school this afternoon.

Clare Carmichael

I would like to let the school community know that Clare Carmichael will be taking some well earned long service leave in 2022 with a look to retire from the Department of Education after that.  Many of our current and past students have had the great pleasure of being in Clare's class.  Her ability to engage students and families is one of her greatest gifts and we are all the better for having Clare in our lives.  When the time comes there will be a time in 2022 to say farewell.

Dance-a-thon

On Friday 3 December we are running our Dance-a-thon.  This is a rollicking afternoon of dancing, games and activities. Keep your eyes open for the sponsorship forms coming home, share these with family and friends and help our students have a great afternoon.  Fundraising monies will go towards making improvements in the garden outside the hall.

Remembrance Day

Today our School Captains led us through a brief Remembrance Day Ceremony, they shared the poem 'In Flanders Field' and stood for one minute of silence as the whole school to remember those who served and sacrificed in all wars and conflicts.  Thank you to families who bought poppies over the last two weeks in support of Legacy.

One of our Grade 2 students, Max, prepared a Remembrance Day Crossword puzzle and we have put it here to challenge you.  I wonder if you can use the clues to work out the answers?  We will provide the answers in the next newsletter.

Visitors and Volunteers

As part of our COVID safety planning we have put in place systems to record and store vaccination information.  According to current rules there is a clear distinction between collection of information for visitors and volunteers at school.

For visitors - Each visit we record having sighted vaccination information from each visitor. From 29 November all visitors onsite will need to show evidence of double vaccination.

For volunteers - For volunteers we collect the evidence of the vaccination information. From 29 November all volunteers onsite will need to provide evidence of double vaccination.

We thank everyone for their patience as we collect and/or store this information.

Grade 3 & 4 Camp Day

To compensate for the Grade 3 & 4 camp being cancelled, our teachers planned and implemented a 'Camp Day' at school with craft activities, games, campfire and damper cooking. What couldn't be organised was the weather, however, the day went ahead regardless and everyone had a great day.

Lamont Book Fair

Our Lamont Book Fair is in full swing.  Most children have now visited the Fair and brought home a wish list of items they liked the look of.  There was a little confusion at this end and some students brought home only a piece of paper with books listed, while others have brought home the official Lamont slip.  We have invited students back in to complete the valid slip and hope they have arrived home during the week.  What do we do with this information now I hear you say?  There are two options:

  1. Look through the wish list, cross off any you do not want to purchase and then complete the credit card details on the back (which is why you need the valid form), send this back to school with your child and we will collect the books, process the payment and send the books home.  OR...
  2. You can attend one of the open sessions and browse and purchase the books then.  The options to visit are:
  • Friday 12 November  -  From 3:30-4:00
  • Monday 15 Novmeber - From 3:30-4:00
  • The last possible chance is Tuesday 16  November, from 3:30-4:00pm

Icy poles are back.

Each Friday lunch time we are selling $1 icy poles to any student who brings along a dollar.  We are now calling for volunteer parents who would be prepared to come and sell these icy poles at school, starting at about 12:50pm each Friday.  It takes about 20-25min to complete the role.  We also need volunteers to collect the icy poles from the supermarket.  We will need to collect and store vaccination information for these volunteers.
