From the Principal

William Wallace

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are entering an exciting phase of Term 4 with many events and activities that showcase students’ work and provide students with opportunities to collaborate and take risks with their learning.

Over the next fortnight, our Year 5 students will share their learning through their Celebration of Learning and our Year 6 students with Exhibition. Exhibition is a celebration of each student’s PYP journey and reflects how strongly they have progressed with their learning at Golden Grove. It is always a pleasure and a highlight of the school year to discuss with the students what they have gained by participating in Exhibition, and we're very much looking forward to this event next Thursday.

Our first cohort of students will graduate from the Children's University program at the University of Adelaide next Wednesday, and it has been a pleasure to share the experiences and learning with the children that they've enjoyed over the course of this year.

The Year 1 students (and teachers!) are looking forward to this Friday night’s sleepover while the Foundation students look excitedly to next week’s BBQ at school.

A number of Year 4-6 students are looking forward to representing Golden Grove at our Connected Schools Sports Day in early November, whilst our swimming program commences next week for Years 3 and 4, and for Foundation to Year 2 later in the term.

Despite the restrictions placed on us with COVID, we have been blessed to be able to conduct a regular learning program for the students and continue to run some of our community events. We are very thankful to many of our families who were incredibly generous in supporting our School and Church Community Fete this year through coming along for the day, donating, volunteering, or being a part of it through setting up a stall or display (especially our Kid Entrepreneurs) or performing on the day.

We are looking forward to holding Middle of Term Breakfast for families before school, on Wednesday 10 November from 8.00-8.30 am. We ask that families who are interested in attending please pre-register for MOT via the school website, as there are still some limits on the number of people who can attend due to the COVID capacity restrictions, as well as signing in on the day.

We are already planning for our 2021 Closing and Graduation Services on Tuesday 7 December as these are key events in the life of our school.

We currently anticipate that the Closing Service will be a whole school service (Foundation to Year 6), commencing at 2.15 pm. This service traditionally includes staff farewells, choir items, Volunteer and Service Awards, and Foundation students singing to the Year 6 students.

The Closing Service is typically followed by a Farewell Afternoon Tea in the Courtyard after school. At the moment, it is likely that we will be able to offer this event with pre-registration and the like in a similar way to Middle of Term Breakfast closer to the time.

The Year 6 Graduation Service will then take place at 7.00 pm in the Worship Centre and we look forward to this occasion, celebrating the achievements of our graduating class and praying for the next steps in their journey.

Please be aware that if there is a significant change in the COVID landscape closer to the time, we may need to modify our plans for these events. This may include reverting to the arrangements we had in place in 2020 which was for a Foundation - Year 2 Closing Service at 1.30 pm, followed by a Year 3-6 Closing Service at 2.15 pm.

Blessings,

Will
