Nunga News

Ninna Marni,

This week Nunga group are outside enjoying the sun at the Yartapuulti Fun Run at Port Adelaide. This is a 3-5km run/walk for the local community to celebrate culture and enjoy physical activity in a social and fun environment.

Another project we have been working on at school is the first stages of building a new ‘Yarning Circle’. This will be an outdoor learning space for all classes to enjoy. A yarning circle is an important process within Aboriginal culture and Torres Strait Islander culture. It has been used by Indigenous peoples from around the world for centuries to learn from a collective group, build respectful relationships, and to preserve and pass on cultural knowledge. By using yarning circles as a teaching and learning strategy, students’ understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and ways of working are enhanced. We hope to have the development of the circle start later this term.

We are looking for new members to join our Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group. We meet once a term in the evening. This is where we discuss the progress of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and plan upcoming events and projects that relate to the RAP. If you are interested in joining us, please come and see me in the front office or contact me on (08) 8356 7930 or Katherine.moore26@schools.sa.edu.au.

Nukan,

Kath
