Cyber Safety Spotlight: Squid Game

This week we would like to inform you of a new, concerning digital trend. Squid Game has recently become the most streamed Netflix show ever. The show from South Korea features characters competing in a series of “children’s schoolyard” games where failure results in death.

The themes and subject matter of this show are highly inappropriate and harmful for children. The show’s popularity has seen a sharp rise in content related to it appearing online, increasing the likelihood that children may be unintentionally exposed to the show online. Some common online spaces where content related to the show is accessible include Netflix, YouTube, social media sites including TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter, and children’s digital games such as Roblox and more.

The Cyber Safety Project has shared a fantastic blog post that provides parents and carers with a look at the show and how we can protect and prevent children from accessing this harmful content.

We strongly recommend all parents and carers read this article and take the recommended steps to safeguard our children when they are online.
