Year 1/2 News
Wellbeing in Year 1/2
Since returning to onsite learning, we have been focusing on wellbeing in Year 1/2. The students have been enjoying settling in after lunch and recess with a mindfulness meditation from Smiling Mind. We have also been learning about kindness, and discussing ways we can be kind to students, teachers and our families.
This week, students are engaging in a ‘random acts of kindness’ challenge where they are encouraged do thoughtful random acts of kindness for people in their class.
We have also been thinking about ways we can calm ourselves down when we start to feel our emotions becoming out of control. Last week we made calming pinwheels which the children decorated beautifully.
Top tips for telling the time!
In Maths, we have been revising the topic of time. Time is such a practical skill and a great one for you to practise at home with your child. Below are some ideas about how you can practise time skills with your child.
- Read calendars with your child and ask them to identify dates on the calendar
- Bring your child’s attention to situations that involve duration of time e.g. how long their favourite tv show lasts, or 1 minute on the microwave
- Reading the time on analogue clocks
- Practising using analogue and digital time language e.g. half past 7 is the same as seven thirty
