From the Principal

Welcome to Term 4.

As we near the end of remote learning over the coming weeks, we look forward to students returning to face-to-face learning onsite. I thank our entire learning community, teachers, students and families for their perseverance, flexibility, and commitment towards making the online learning experience successful. I understand that it wasn’t easy or ideal, however, I was inspired by the efforts of our teachers and students, as they navigated this landscape.

Our focus over the next few weeks will be to support students in getting back into the routine of learning at school. Lessons will be structured with clear learning intentions and success criteria being used to guide students, and teachers will provide time for students to simply talk and reconnect. Student wellbeing remains our priority and we have support staff ready to support students where needed.

Our school’s COVID-safe operations involve staggered arrival, break and departure times. This has been emailed to all families, and it appears in this newsletter. I encourage you to read and become familiar with these processes before face-to-face learning commences. Our plan will evolve over the coming weeks as updated information is released by the NSW DoE.

We are excited about our students returning to face-to-face learning. Through masterful lessons developed and delivered by expert teachers, we look forward to providing our students with deep learning experiences back onsite, that are transformative and confidence-boosting.

As you already know, our teachers are passionate about their areas of expertise, and they all hold high expectations for every student. When students return, they will engage in fun learning experiences across the entire school. They will experience exciting experiments in Science, venture into the magical world of numbers in Mathematics, create fantastical works of art in Creative and Performing Arts, cook up a storm in our kitchens, explore the wonders of the natural, ancient and modern worlds in Human Society and its Environment, learn about the complexities of the human body in PDHPE and explore creative writing in English. This is just the beginning of the learning experiences awaiting for students back onsite.

On behalf of all teachers, and the broader staff here at our wonderful school, we thank all Killara students and families for your commitment and efforts during remote learning, and we look forward to seeing you back on site according to the staged return dates.

I listen to all types of music, and I often play music around the school or at camps. It lightens the mood and poetically captures emotions and experiences in vivid ways. My recommended soundtrack for the week is Here Comes The Sun by the Beatles. The song writing of George Harrison captures succinctly the positive vibe of our time.
