Writers’ Festival 2021

We were all very excited and looking forward to creating a wonderful ‘Circus’ themed Writers’ Festival this year, however unfortunately due to remote learning being extended into late October for our Grades 3-6 students, we have made the decision to cancel the 2021 Writers’ Festival. We are disappointed that this special event can’t go ahead but we look forward to planning a bigger and better event in 2022 when we can welcome the Delacombe Primary School community back to celebrate our wonderful students again.

Home Reading at Delacombe Primary School

The Home Reading Program is an integral part of our school reading program at Delacombe Primary School. All students are expected to read each weeknight at home for 20 minutes and have their reading diary signed.

We have ‘Take Home’ books available for all students to access to take home in their Reader Bags and these can be swapped over daily to provide students with some variety. After reading, please record the book read in their diary and have this signed. For students in Prep to Grade 2, a parent or carer should sign the diary, however students in Grades 3 to 6, and independent readers, can record the book and sign their diary themselves.

Each morning as part of our morning routine, students need to get their reading diary checked by their classroom teacher and have their name ticked off or else they will be required to attend Reading Club.

Reading Club is an opportunity for students to read at school if they have missed the opportunity at home, as we know how important reading daily is to a student’s literacy development, however reading at home with a parent, carer or older sibling, really is the best option.

We are currently seeing a large number of students attending Reading Club and would love to see this number decrease. If there is something preventing your child from completing their Home Reading, please be in touch and we will assist where we can.

Happy reading everyone,

Stephanie Lindsay
