MAPS (Marist Asia-Pacific Solidarity) Appeal

By Michael Doolan - Service Captain

This year’s MAPS appeal was once again an utterly amazing event. For those who are unaware, the appeal aims to help the Marist Brothers establish schools around the Asia-Pacific, allowing people to receive a quality education. We improved on last year’s total of $8116, with a truly commendable effort raising $13,500. I thank all the homerooms that supported the appeal, specifically 7.1 and 12.2 who raised the most money for the junior and senior school, respectively.  7.1’s donation of $1,600 was truly astonishing especially since it was their first involvement in the MAPS appeal. Thank you for your donations, your sacrifices will mean so much to those in need.

Rosies

By Michael Doolan

Several of our Year 12s go out to meet some of the less privileged members of our society when they assist Rosies. They are accompanied by a member of staff as they help give out food, drink, clothing and sanitary kits to people in need. Rosies is a truly astonishing experience, allowing us to see how much of an impact a simple chat and cup of coffee can make in someone's life. I thank all the gents who have volunteered, and especially our teachers who took time out of their busy schedules to attend. I also thank Mrs Cross for facilitating Rosies, and for doing a lot of work behind the scenes so we can help the less fortunate.

Here are some comments from students who have helped out:

The opportunity was rewarding and seeing people from the community be happy also made my day. Futa Ma

Rosies is an amazing way to contribute to our community and also do the good works that help create a more just community for all. - Darcy Oates

Rosies gave me an appreciation of those less fortunate in our community, and I enjoyed doing what I could to help them out. - Eden Kear
