Acting Principal's Report

Acting Principal’s Report 10th March

Acting Principal – Nicky Walker

I would like to introduce myself to the 2023 Lyndhurst school community. I previously worked at Lyndhurst Primary from 2011 to 2019 and contributed to the growth and development of this amazing school. I worked as the Prep/Grade 1 Assistant Principal from 2015 to 2019 and since then have been Principal at Cranbourne Carlisle Primary and Balnarring Primary. Lyndhurst Primary School has always had a special place in my heart, and I am now delighted and feel very privileged to be returning as the Acting Lyndhurst Primary School Principal for 2023 while Greg is working in the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership. It’s very exciting to be the principal of a school that has such a great reputation and is held in such high regard in the educational sector. Lyndhurst Primary School is a unique and vibrant school that has an incredibly dedicated staff, enthusiastic students and a supportive school community. Three of the most important factors to create a successful school.

It has been lovely returning to see all our happy students coming into school with big smiles on their faces, happy to be at school learning with their friends. I am looking forward to a great year ahead and working closely with the whole school community.

Partners in Learning Sessions

We had a great turnout for our Partners in Learning sessions last week. The staff enjoyed interacting with families as our children showcased their classrooms and learning. We hope that parents and carers were able to gain a greater insight into how our school operates. We look forward to working with you all to support the learning and social needs of your children throughout 2023.

Thank you, as well, for the feedback via the QR codes to those who attended. This has provided our school with vital information to improve how these sessions operate in the future.

Labour Day

This is a reminder that Monday 13th March is the Labour Day public holiday. There is no school on this day.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN will be run from Wednesday 15th March to Monday 27th March. Teachers have provided students with practice sessions to get them accustomed to how these tests are administered, practising test strategies and preparing our students to be able to complete the test to the best of their ability. We encourage all students to do their best. To try and minimise any worries we continually reassure students that this just is another opportunity to demonstrate their learning.

It is also important to understand that this is a nationwide test that students in years 3 to 9 participate in every two years. It doesn’t provide the ‘whole’ picture of our students. It is important to recognise the ongoing assessments by our educators about the social and emotional and learning needs of each child here at Lyndhurst provide more value than a ‘one-off’ test.
