Literacy

In Literacy this term, we will be continuing our SMART Foundation program, learning about more complex sounds in digraphs and trigraphs. We will be recommencing our differentiated reading groups in which students will be working within their group to learn about reading strategies, genres and grammar conventions. In writing, students will begin to practise writing using lined paper in preparation for Year 1. We will also be focussing on writing to entertain and writing to explain.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we will be starting the term by learning about Number including place value, addition and subtraction. We will focus on statistics and data, consolidating on our learning of collecting and interpreting simple data sets. The students will begin to learn about division and how to share numbers equally. We will then learn about mass and capacity using hands-on learning materials and then end the term by learning about fractions in preparation for Year 1.

Inquiry

Our Inquiry Unit for this term is called ‘On The Move’. In this unit we will be learning about forces, push, pull and what makes things move. We will be doing lots of hands-on activities to explore the concept of movement. We will also be incorporating Genius Hour into this unit and consolidating our problem solving skills. The students will be participating in an Incursion from Hands on Science this term. During the incursion, students will investigate the way objects move depending on a variety of factors, including their shape, size and weight.

 

RE

In Religion this term, we are going to be focussing on scripture and interpreting the stories of Jesus. We will be learning about how Jesus teaches us to live in right relationships. As we move to the end of the year, we will be focussing on Advent and the Jesse Tree then the Christmas story and the birth of Jesus.
