Malaysian Bridge School

Since 2015,  Sekolah Tun Fatimah in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, has been a partner school under the Asian Education Foundation’s Bridge Program.

Earlier this term, Year 9 and 10 students from ASC held a video conference with students from our Malaysian partner school. The girls in Malaysia were having online lessons from their homes because of Covid-19 restrictions. They have excellent English and were very keen to learn about teenage life in Australia!

Mrs Moore has strong ties with this school and hopes to continue opportunities to connect ASC classes with other international students. Likewise, Sekolah Tun Fatimah teacher, Ms Fieqa, is also excited about continuing communication with us! Take a look at Ms Fieqa’s instagram @fieqateachenglish to find out more.

Comments and observations from ASC students following the video conference include:

  • Malaysian girls get up at 5am every morning, they go to the mosque, have breakfast, and then school begins before 7am!
  • It was really fun to learn about their culture!
  • They were so polite and respectful!
  • They all love “nasi lemak” which is traditional coconut rice with spicy sambal famous in Johor Bahru.
  • I love how the girls were so nice!
