Teen Parenting course

A teen parenting course will be offered by the Armidale Family Support Service on 10 September @ 1:00 - 2:30pm. The course provides an overview of the resources, services and options for parents of teens including:

  • developmental and cognitive changes,
  • locally available resources,
  • overview of current parenting programs and advice,
  • current online information and content,
  • strategies for encouraging good behaviour and managing bad behaviour.

Volunteering @ Camp Magic

Camp Magic is Australia's largest and leading grief education and support programme for bereaved children and teenages between the ages of 7-17.Since its inception in 2015, it has supported hundreds of campers who are grieving the loss of a parent, sibling or legal guardian. Campers attend a transformational weekend-long program free of charge that combines fun, physical challenges with grief education and emotional support.

 

Camp Magic is planning to hold a 3 day programme in Armidale in November 2020 (Covid-19 restrictions pending). Training days for volunteers will be held at UNE on 12-13 September.

Indoor hockey competition

Hockey New England has been running an extremely successful school based Indoor Hockey competition for some years now. In 2019-20 we will again offer three primary divisions along with U13 and U16s. Primary divisions are on Fridays and secondary games on Thursday evenings.

 

HNE can provide sticks for those that require them. The teams can be mixed gender and have six players a side. The small team size may the game appealing to small schools.

Kurdish Kurmanji language classes

Taught by Hass Rasul, who is currently working for several agencies in Armidale as an official Australian Government translator. This is a great opportunity for people in the New England region who are working or volunteering with the Ezidi community to better understand both linguistic and cultural contexts in a friendly relaxed atmosphere.

  • When: Monday evenings from 7 – 9pm
  • Starting: 7th September 2020
  • Where: Armidale; attend in person or via zoom link.
