ASC Futsal League

Three leagues, 16 teams, 36 matches, and 150 goals ... the 2020 ASC Futsal League was an outstanding success!  For those who are unfamiliar with the sport: futsal is an indoor modification of football (soccer) played on a basketball court. Each team has five players, and the team with the most goals wins the match. It is fast-paced, great to play, and fun to watch!

The 2020 ASC Futsal League took place at The Den on 14 August. Students from all years nominated teams for three different competitions: the ASC Cup, ASC Trophy, and ASC Shield. We had teams nominated from across all years,  and for some students it was the first time playing in a futsal competition. Go to our photo gallery for all the action and excitement!

We began the day at 8:20am with the first round of the ASC League Cup, which mainly involved teams of more senior students. Sadly, this was probably the last chance many Year 12 students have to play in a school futsal competition because of Covid-19 disruptions. The matches were fast-paced with play end-to-end as teams looked to exploit tactical weaknesses in their opposition. This league was very exciting to watch because of the close results, tight competition, and physical match-ups. Top spot was a contest between Westside and JRAAB, with The Artists and Krish’s Boyz fighting it out for third place At the end of the competition teams for first and third could only be separated by goal difference. In the case for third place, it was The Artists who had the stronger defense having the superior goal difference over Krish’s Boyz.  Westside were crowned ASC League Cup champions after scoring the same number of goals as second-runners JRAAB, but with one less goal scored against them.

The ASC League Trophy was contested by five teams,  with tough defense dominating most of the games. Ball changes were few and far between, and some great goalkeeping when a shot was directed on target led to the lowest scores of the day. FCG United was crowned ASC League Trophy champions after only three goals were scored against them. The battle for second was between Scary and Shawty’s. Both teams were very evenly matched, but Scary came out at second place after beating Shawty’s by 2-1 in their encounter.

The ASC League Shield had the highest participation with six teams battling for the newly crafted award. This league had it all - students represented from all years at ASC, high scoring matches, diverse styles of play, and nail-biting finishes! However, The Big Bois emerged as the team-to-beat, displaying skillful play and excellent tracking back in defense.  In the end The Big Bois showed they had answers to whatever opponents tried and came away winning every game. Fly Girls placed second with the second-best attack of the day scoring 14 goals led by “Golden Boot” Lucy Portell scoring 10 of those goals.

Students had a brilliant time throughout the day and everyone's conduct was commendable. Be on the lookout for the ASC Futsal League to be back next year!!

Nicole's tennis success

Congratulations to Nicole Tarrant (Year 9) for winning the Girl's Under-16 Championship at the 2020 North West Tamworth Tournament.

She was subsequently selected to play in the Champion of Champions event in Inverell, which was unfortunately cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions.

We wish Nicole further success when competitive tennis resumes!
