School-Wide News

What's happening

  • Check-in assessments for Year 9: Week 5 - literacy, Week 6 numeracy, and catch-up sessions as required. Assessment window closes in Week 7.
  • Minimum Standards Tests: will be starting again for Yr 10-12 once the senior examinations have concluded.
  • WHS: all external providers for sport have a Covid-19 Safety Plan in accordance with the most recent Covid-19 regulations.
  • Reports: will be rolling out next term. Year 12 Reports will be issued first, and include comments similar to previous years. If you are concerned about your child’s learning before that date, please contact their teacher or the Faculty Head Teacher.
  • Tell Them From Me: initial surveys concluded last term. Due to the Covid-19 disruption and the remote learning provisions in late Term 1 and part of Term 2, we only had about half of all students completing it. Snapshot 2 of the TTFM Student Survey will be available soon for all students to complete.
  • All My Own Work will be delivered to Year 10 in Term 4, with parents and students receiving an email closer to the date. This mandatory course prepares students for the expectations around their work and assessment for the HSC and TAFE courses. As in previous years, students will be taught the work, then they will go through the online assessment of learning individually.

School vaccinations

Our first catch-up vaccination clinic was in Week 3 of Term 3, with more to be organised as required. Keep an eye out on the ASC Facebook page for further updates.

Vaccination consent forms are available from the school office. Please contact Jayne Lovelock (jayne.lovelock2@det.nsw.edu.au) for school-specific information regarding vaccinations.

Missed Vaccinations

1. Year 7 or Year 10 students who have missed any vaccination in 2020 will be offered these missed doses at the next school clinic. Students who have returned a signed consent form but have not received their vaccine before the end of this year are eligible to receive in 2021:

  • Year 7 - HPV & dTpa vaccine,
  • Year 10 – Meningococcal ACWY.

2. Year 8 students who commenced their HPV vaccinations in Year 7 but are yet to finish the course (and have not received any from their local doctor) can receive one at next school clinic (provided six months have elapsed).

Record of Vaccination

A Record of Vaccination is given to each student for each vaccination, and parents/ guardians should ensure that this record is kept for future reference. It should not be assumed that their child has been vaccinated if a Record of Vaccination has not been received.

Other options

1. As of July 2017 any student who has missed a school programme vaccines or any childhood vaccines can receive them from their local doctor.

2. Vaccinations can also be obtained by contacting Armidale Community Health (ph: 6776 9897)

Farewell Duval

The Farewell Duval Open Day, scheduled for Saturday, 27 August, has been cancelled due to the recently upgraded Covid-19 restrictions on public gatherings.

As an alternative, we are preparing a Virtual Farewell Duvalwhich will be posted on the ASC website. We acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of Mr Merrick and his Year 10 IST class who are preparing a virtual tour of the school. The SRC will also assist by recording interviews with students, staff and ex-students about Duval High School memories.

The Community Day planned for October at the new Butler Street campus has also been postponed. However, we are keen to share our amazing new facilities with everyone as soon as restrictions allow. Aerial photos of the new campus - taken the end of June - give some idea of building progress up-to and since that time.

Staff and students will commence familiarity tours of the new school campus in Term 4. At least two visits will be arranged for each year group. A schedule will be provided towards the end of term.
