Classroom News - Year 1

Welcome Miss Allen

Miss Victoria Allen started her Internship with 1F over the last couple of weeks. She has been a welcome addition to our Year 1 teaching team and will be with us for the remainder of the term and into the beginning of next term. 

Home Readers

Home readers are going home again. Please ensure that your child returns their home reading folder and readers each Thursday and these will be changed by their teacher and sent home. 

Big Write

Just a reminder that Big Write occurs most Friday mornings. Students are sent home with their talk homework each Thursday afternoon and we ask that they are assisted at home to form their ideas. Some students have been writing their ideas out at home with the support of parents. This may help your child however it is not necessary. Students who bring these plans to school are asked not to copy them down during Big Write time. Our emphasis during Big Write is for students to write independently or using limited support provided by the class teacher or peers.

Tricky Words and Bossy 'e'

We are starting to learn Set 8 Tricky words this week. Please keep reading through all the sets and have your child practice spelling them correctly. Keep spelling practice to a maximum of 3 per night. Over the next couple of weeks, our IniaLit focus will be around learning about the Bossy 'e'. So feel free to practise reading and spelling words with Bossy 'e' at home.

Mathematics

We have been working on fractions. Students have been learning about halves as well as what would be more than a half and less than a half. We have also introduced students to quarters including quarters of a whole shape and quarters of a group of objects.

Geography

Last week we finished our Science and Technology unit. We had a great time making rain gauges! We are now moving onto our new unit of Geography where we will be investigating

Features of places and how they are organised. We will also be incorporating Dance and drama into the unit.
