From the Principal Class Team

Farewell

On behalf of the School Council and school community, I would like to acknowledge and thank Mr Leno Sammut for all his work as Grounds Person this year.

The evidence of Leno’s care and efforts are all around us in the beautiful gardens and well-kept grounds, and they look especially lovely this time of year.

We wish Leno all the very best for the future, and thank him for what he leaves behind for us to enjoy.

Former students keeping us motivated

The faces and voices of former students through our Alumni Program, have featured on our screens a number of times during the recent months of online learning. And at a time when we need optimism, a future focus, and motivation more than ever, their stories, together with their understanding of our context, have been so uplifting and energising.

Whether it has been through the Wellbeing session for senior girls, the Industry Insights seminar, or the pathways focused videos, they have inspired and entertained with their stories.

Congratulations and thank you to our Alumni Program Coordinator, Ms Nicole Gurd, for the fabulous work she has done in seeking out and enlisting the expertise of former St Albans Secondary College students.

The video clips can be found on the Schools YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVYlZskOxH2oN2V-ZIudbLw

Parent Teacher Interviews

2020 has certainly thrown all of us some challenges and, as we drew to the end of another period of remote teaching and learning, we wanted to be able to have discussions with our parents in some way.

Parent teacher interviews were originally scheduled for Wednesday 16 September, but it became clear we would need to run them very differently than we had in the past. They needed to go remote and we realised we wouldn’t be able to run them for all year levels as they would require more time for each interview to enable staff, parents and students to get into a google meet. It was decided to run them for Year 7 and Year 12. Year 7 students in 2020 had experienced a transition into secondary school unlike any other year and Year 12 are experiencing a very different end to their secondary schooling than anyone could have ever imagined. The interviews ran over two half days and we were able to continue with most classes for other year levels during this time.

Running interviews with these two year levels enabled us to provide some much needed reassurance and feedback.  We thank all those families who took part in parent teacher interviews and persevered with any technical difficulties that may have arisen. We also thank all the staff involved in the interviews and the School Coordination Team for setting up a more complex system than usual. The feedback we have received has been overwhelmingly positive and the process went reasonably smoothly, so thank you to everyone who took part.

Any parents of students in any year level who would like to discuss their child’s progress or pathway are welcome to email their child’s Year Level Coordinator or the Sub School their child is in using the following email addresses:

End of Term arrangements
