Dear Parents and Carers,

Maths At Home Tip

Helping your children to do maths at home can be a positive experience.

One way is to ‘SEE MATHS EVERYDAY’.

There is plenty of maths around you to develop numeracy skills, such as calculating, measuring, using numbers, interpreting data and graphs, recognising patterns, and using language to develop mathematical understanding. Ask questions about the maths in activities like cooking, exercise, sport, budgeting and shopping. Playing games is also a fun way to practice and experience maths.

‘Counting on Frank’ written by ROD CLEMENT

As part of our book week celebrations, the students were invited to watch a video of Miss Corio reading  ‘Counting on Frank’  written by ROD CLEMENT.  This picture storybook explores various mathematical concepts such as; length and volume.  As an additional remote learning activity, the students were invited to participate in a guessing competition, so as to be in the running to win a jar of Jelly Beans, similar to the one pictured in the story book..

Did you have a go at guessing how many UNIFIX cubes are in the jar?  Stay tuned, the winner will be announced at the next School Assembly!

Your child now has taken home access to Mathletics, a targeted, rewarding and captivating online learning resource, which is aligned to curriculum standards. We have put together an easy to follow collection of support resources to make using Mathletics at home as simple as possible for both parents/guardian and your children.

Classroom teachers will be assigning students activities to be completed very soon.  Teachers will inform your child which activities they wish them to complete.  In the interim we invite you to login into Mathletics using your child’s login details and explore the Mathletics website. If your child does not have their details as yet, please rest assured that they will be bringing them home in the coming week.

One of the features of Mathletics is the Live Mathletics Dashboard.  When in Live Mathletics students challenge others around the world from the pool of students currently online. To make sure the race is a fair contest, students are only matched with those on the same ranking.

If there are any concerns with logging in please email either your child’s classroom teacher or myself.
