Year 9B1 – Book Week Theme Poem/Welfare session Focus

Ms Dianna Lauria - English

Old World….

New World…

Other World…

We are all in a different world, living and coping with the COVID pandemic.

If only we could escape this new world, where masks and restrictions have become our norm and be in a movie, it would be way better. We could fantasise about the new technology that could be developed or the futuristic aspects of a whole new world.

Imagine the devices we could be creating and using, the buildings we could be developing, the work opportunities that could be happening and the new cars that could be made.

On the other hand, we wish we could go back to an old world right now, back to being in our childhood where our dreams and fears were unknown, where things were simpler, where being with friends was easier or regressing back to babyhood and the praises of our families without this duress and where the past seemed much easier.

Right now we wish we could escape to another world, a whole other world, where we could live in a world full of food that was endless and of our hearts desires but more importantly where we could live in world peace, with love and without war and freedom to just be.

9B1 - 10 things I Hate About You poems

Kiara Blyth

I hate this pandemic called covid-19, it forced all of us into quarantine

I hate being home, I feel so alone

I hate being indoors, it makes me want to go out more

I hate doing teams meetings early hours in the morning as some of them can be long and boring

I hate doing remote learning, it’s frying my brain

I hate how there are so many tasks, I don’t know how long I’ll be able to last

I hate how I have to stare at a computer for hours, completing all tasks I have to encounter

I hate how I have to isolate away from others, especially from my grandmother

I hate having to be away from my friends, I don’t know when I’ll be able to see them again

But what I hate the most is how much damage this virus has caused, by making us put our lives on pause.

For my mum:

I love my games and I love to smile,

I love to bring joy and make people laugh,

I love to play games even when it’s boring, just make it competitive and ill consider joining,

I love it when you speak, just not to loud,

I love it when you praise me,

I love it when you make me laugh when my life’s a living hell,

I love the way you understand and never let me give up.

I love the way you are there for me to keep my spirits up.

I love the way you know what to say when I am mad

I love the way you wipe my tears when I am sad.

I hate the way you yell at me, it echoes on the stairs,

I hate it when you make jokes here and there,

I hate it when you put me where I’m not supposed to be, but it turns out it was meant to be,

I hate it when I do the chores, I hate it when I can’t relax,

I hate it when you do not get me snacks,

I hate that you check on me at bad times, but really its so I don’t stay inside.

I hate it when you are not there for me, it makes me sad,

But most importantly it makes me mad,

I hate the fact you work, why cannot you stay with us,

But anything to pay the bills huh I guess that reason is enough,

I hate it when you leave me alone in the dark, but your always near me in my heart.

8B1 English class book week activity

Year 8B1 engaged in an interactive activity for Book Week exploring the them of Old World, New World and Other Worlds. Old Worlds reminded us of ancient times, old movies historical events in time.

New Worlds took us on a journey to the future. Other worlds made us think of our imagination, mythology and the parallel universe. We also thought of all the worlds being a timeline flowing through all of the worlds, while entering differing universe dimensions for that time.

We reflected on our current world and situation and it makes us feel; confused, trapped, normal, sleepy, competitive, motivated, happy and look at memories we share of the past.

8B1 then demonstrated their current feeling of the world and drew it on a collected rock medium. We enjoyed this class and being creative while exploring Book Week together.
