Barak House Report

So much has been happening in the digital online world of Barak House.

During homegroup times teachers have been telling jokes and being rated from 1 to 10. Students have been encouraged to bring along their pet or their breakfast or both.

Teachers have also been sending students in this time frame to complete treasure hunts, ‘Go and get one sock, one spoon and a pair of nail cutters’. Also in home group and just to warm students up for the start of classes, there have been the use of emoji sentences and ‘create your own memes’ which have been a success.

During class time, teachers and students have been having competitions to supply the best GIFs. Programs have been used to enhance the curriculum, such as Kahootz, Glookit, NearPod. Mr Ronalds has even gone as far as using the program Geoguesser, which puts students in a spot in the world with the help of Google Earth and the students have to try and guess where they are.

This is all added to the good old fashion human connection of just chatting with the kids and doing the occasional pop quiz. Not to mention the actual work. Mix this in with the Barak House Team regularly visiting classes and home groups and apart from the screen that the students work through not much has changed.

We could not be prouder of the resilience our students and families are showing during this time. Keep up the good work team we are so proud of you.

Mr Bykersma

Lang House Report

Like pretty much everyone, the members of the Lang House Team have been challenged by the rigorous demands that come with a state-wide lockdown. Technological issues, travel limits, separation from loved ones and just plain old boredom have all affected us at times, but we continue to flourish with the strong support of our students, parents, carers and colleagues, and while remote learning presents its own specific challenges, we take heart from the patience and application shown by our students, parents and carers. This is evidenced by the high number of commendations awarded to students by our teachers, and the significant improvement in a attendance numbers from the previous lockdowns.

We would continue to emphasize the need for care and kindness over this difficult time, and would encourage all of you to contact the team as soon as possible if you require any assistance.

Lang Team are here to help!

Mr. Neil Bradbury

Lang House Leader
