Reporting Student Progress and Achievement

Ongoing results and feedback are available to students and parents via SEQTA Learn and Engage. It is important that all parents are checking the results and feedback provided for students on SEQTA on a regular basis. Some feedback, for Semester 2, should be available for all students in each of the subjects that they study by the end of this term. Please discuss your daughter’s progress, learning goals and the feedback/reflection that she has added. In doing this, your daughter will be able to formulate a clearer idea of “where to next” in her learning. This should support students to optimise their learning progress during the remainder of the year.

Year 9 2021

Thank you to all of the students and their families who attended our Year 9 Program 2022 Parent and Student Information Webinar, last week. It was wonderful to have so many attend as we plan for Year 9 2022. It is so important that parents remain informed and engaged in their child’s learning, as we know that this has a positive impact on growth and achievement. Students should have now submitted their elective preferences for 2022. They will receive confirmation of elective placements in Term 4.

Unit 3/4 VCE Update

As with so many events this year, we have had to review and update the plan for the delivery of the Unit 3/4 Trial Exams. The program developed aims to maximise students’ contact time with their own teachers, whilst still providing essential, authentic examination practice for students in their Unit 3/4 subjects.  We have considered a number of different models and have developed a flexible program of delivery.

There is an expectation that all students complete at least one formal trial exam in each subject. Students will not be removed from classes for a trial exam block and teachers will have the option to decide what will work best for their classes. This could be:

  • a compulsory remote exam in the second week of the holidays

             or

  • a face-face exam in the first two weeks of term in class time

              or

  • a Wednesday afternoon trial exam for our largest subject groups - English 6 October until 3.45 pm and Further Maths 13 October finishing at 3.00 pm

As outlined in the VCE Expectations Letter, all students were originally expected to complete the Trial Exam Block from Monday 27 September to Friday 1 October. For this reason, all students are required to attend any remote trial exams scheduled during this period.

We remind students and their families of the importance of authentic exam practice as a proven strategy for exam success. The targeted feedback that can be provided will also enable students to maximise the effectiveness of their revision in the final weeks.

Some teachers may also schedule remote holiday classes over the break. A complete schedule of trial exams and holiday classes will be sent out this week.  Permitted Essential Assessments may continue onsite; however, at this time this is restricted to the performing arts and some VET studies.

To provide further opportunity for additional face-to-face revision, there will be a 3-day program of revision classes planned for Thursday 22 October to Monday 25 October. We encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity.

The General Achievement Test (GAT) is scheduled for Tuesday 5 October and all students studying a scored Unit 3/4 Study are required to complete this important assessment. The students have participated in a planned program of preparation and practice for the GAT and further details will be sent this week.

Please note, the above information may change, dependent on any further health advice and restriction updates.

We are proud of our Unit 3/4 students and the way they have continued to focus on preparing for their final assessments and we commend them for the way that they have continued to adapt and make the most of the different challenges they face this year.
